Union Pacific: Winter Storm Bozeman Impacts Operations

To Our Customers,
Extremely cold temperatures and snowfall from Winter Storm Bozeman are affecting operations across a large portion of our network. What was originally forecast to be a relatively mild storm has, instead, caused significant issues in all three of our regions. Cold temperatures are causing broken rails across large parts of our Northern Region from Wyoming to Chicago, and into our Southern Region as far south as Dallas and Houston. Cold temperatures also force us to limit the length of some trains. Additionally, upwards of 18 inches of snow has fallen across parts of our network in the Pacific Northwest, particularly impacting our line between Portland and Hinkle, Oregon.
Current forecasts predict cold temperatures and snowfall across the Plains and Upper Midwest throughout the weekend and into early next week. While all aspects of Union Pacific's winter preparedness plans have been implemented, we anticipate this storm will impact service for several days. Our Winter Command Centers are active, and, to minimize interruptions as much as possible, we are fully staffed across our network for 24-hour coverage going into this weekend.
This winter storm will affect not only Union Pacific's network and facilities, but also our customers' facilities, and the communities where our employees and customers live.
